Today, the Chief of Naval Personnel announced Lt. Evita Salles as the winner of the Human Resources Community Junior Officer of the Year Award (HR JOOY) for 2016.

The award was established in 2010 and recognizes one Human Resources junior officer each year for their significant contributions to the Navy.

Salles, Director of Reserve Officer Accessions, Commander, Navy Recruiting Command (CNRC) helped recruit, process and access more than 11 thousand prospective naval officers in 2016, and led a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Project that helped save the Navy over $20 million as a result of her hard work.

Rear Adm. Ann Burkhardt, Director, 21st Century Sailor Office is the Navy's senior HR Officer and said this is a significant accomplishment for Salles.

"Lt. Salles has shown all the qualities of an outstanding HR Officer." said Burkhardt. "Her work really shows the role our community plays in helping the Navy identify talent, and put the right Sailor with the right skills to meet needs across the fleet now and in the future."

The Human Resource community was created in 2001 to recruit, process, and access Sailors into the Navy. HR officers serve in key positions throughout the Navy and help to improve personnel management and training systems to more effectively recruit, develop, manage, reward, and retain the force of tomorrow.
