Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) North Island students and staff attended a quarterly safety stand down May 19 at the Lowery Theater at Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI).

The Training Support Center (TSC) San Diego presentation was an effort to ensure NASNI-area students and staff remain aware of a variety of safety concerns commonly associated with the three-month time frame between Memorial Day and Labor Day, often referred to as the "101 Critical Days of Summer."

CNATTU service members -- as well as individuals from other NAS North Island commands -- received training on the dangers of drinking and driving, drug use and new drugs available, recreational safety, traffic safety and drinking and driving among others.

Presenters emphasized the dangers of excess alcohol use, employing training aids designed to simulate the effects of varying degrees of alcohol consumption. Individuals attending the safety stand down participated in the interactive presentations, by attempting to walk in a straight line and kicking rubber balls from the stage to the audience while wearing devices simulating the effects of alcohol consumption.

CNATTU North Island is a training unit of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training located at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. CNATT develops, delivers, and supports aviation technical training at 27 sites located throughout the continental United States and Japan.

CNATT is a technical training agent for the Naval Aviation Enterprise, an organization designed to advance and sustain Naval Aviation warfighting capabilities at an affordable cost, and is the largest training center under Naval Education and Training Command.
