Naval Supply Systems Command Global Logistics Support (NAVSUP GLS) recently created a new functional department to specifically service and address naval warfighter readiness issues.

The new department, designated Code 42 - Warfighter and Family Readiness, streamlines the NAVSUP GLS construct by grouping four of the primary "caregiver" functions -- functions that so many of our servicemembers and their families rely on -- into one holistic department. The four functions include Navy Household Goods, Navy Postal Services, Navy Food Services, and travel for all 5,400 members of the NAVSUP GLS enterprise.

"The creation of Code 42 - Warfighter and Family Readiness will help the NAVSUP GLS team more efficiently and effectively administer the all important caregiver services to our warfighters down-range, creating fiscal and administrative efficiencies," said Rear Adm. James McNeal, commander, NAVSUP GLS.

The new department will be led by Department Head Paul Brown, who formerly headed NAVSUP GLS's Project Handclasp program for both the operational Navy and NAVSUP GLS. Project Handclasp was transferred to the NAVSUP GLS Code 43 - Operations Department as a result of the reorganization.

"Warfighters and families are what we are all about," said McNeal. "This transformational realignment in how we do business here at NAVSUP GLS demonstrates our sincere commitment to provide the best possible service to promote warfighter readiness."

The reorganization began with a functional "soft" start date of June 6, while the official "hard" start date will be October 1.

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of approximately 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
