Coastal Riverine Group (CRG) 1 held a change of command ceremony June 29 at Naval Station Pearl Harbor.

During the ceremony, Capt. David Miller relieved Capt. Gary Leigh as commanding officer of CRG 1.

A native of London, Leigh enlisted in the Navy in 1979 and in December 1989 he was selected as a candidate in the Navy's Enlisted Commissioning Program and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1991.

Under Leigh's leadership, CRG 1 deployed two Coastal Riverine Squadrons (CORIVRONs) and numerous detachment-level missions to the U.S. Central Command, European Command, Pacific Command, Africa Command, and Southern Command areas of responsibility.

Additionally, CRG 1 established the CORIVRON 1 High Value Unit (HVU) Detachment in San Diego, and CORIVRON 11 HVU Detachment Bangor, Washington. Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet tasked these detachments with providing force protection to designated 3rd Fleet assets. CRG 1 also developed a comprehensive and efficient training program of record for the Navy's newest MK VI patrol boat for West coast operations.

Miller, a native of Blue Earth, Minnesota, was commissioned in June 1991 at the University of Minnesota under the Naval ROTC program and received a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Prior to assuming command, he served as the deputy commodore of CRG 1.

Coastal Riverine Force (CRF) operates in harbors, rivers, bays, across the littorals and ashore. The primary mission of CRF is to conduct maritime security operations across all phases of military operations by defending high value assets, critical maritime infrastructure, ports and harbors both inland and on coastal waterways against enemies and when commanded conduct offensive combat operations.
