The U.S. Navy accepted delivery of future USS Montgomery (LCS 8), the fourth Independence-class littoral combat ship (LCS) built at Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama under the oversight of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP) Gulf Coast, June 23.

A high-speed aluminum trimaran LCS, Montgomery is designed to operate in coastal waters and provide enhanced mission capabilities against multiple threats.

Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center (NAVSUP FLC) Jacksonville's detachment at SUPSHIP Gulf Coast successfully outfitted Coordinated Shipboard Allowance List material to include operating space items, store room items, and general use consumables, which ensures the ship is able to sustain operations at sea.

Along with this effort, NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville personnel at SUPSHIP Gulf Coast successfully completed bin validation of more than 1,800 items with 99.7 percent inventory accuracy. The outstanding teamwork from Master Chief Logistics Specialist Guillermo Reyesvalles, Chief Ship's Serviceman Chequera Jones, the shipbuilder, and ship's crew was paramount to this success.

"It is fitting that as we celebrated our nation's independence, another Independence-class LCS was accepted for delivery." said Glen Van Vorst, deputy director, Industrial Support Department, NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville.

The next major milestone for Montgomery will be sail-away, tentatively scheduled for late August.

NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville, one of eight fleet logistics centers under NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS), provides operational logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and other joint and allied forces.
