An MH-60S with the Island Knights of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 provided assistance to an injured recreationist at lower Sigua Falls in Guam, July 24.

The injured person had jumped from the top of the waterfall and impacted the water in a way that caused unconsciousness. He was pulled from the water by friends but continued to go in and out of consciousness.

The helicopter crew was able to hover in the vicinity of the waterfall and hoist the recreationist into the helicopter for follow-on transport to the local hospital.

"It's a privilege to assist those in need in our community," said Matt Vanlandingham, the helicopter aircraft commander of the helicopter that responded. "I'm glad HSC-25 is able to give back to the community in this manner."

Others on the aircrew felt similarly.

"I enjoy my job, particularly when it involves potentially saving someone's life," said Naval Aircrewman Helicopter 2nd Class Van Mansfield, the crewchief on the mission.

HSC 25 is the Navy's only forward-deployed MH-60S expeditionary squadron, based out of Guam with detachments serving throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. HSC 25 operates under Amphibious Force 7th Fleet, whose forward-deployed headquarters is in Okinawa, Japan.
