Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS The Sullivans (DDG 68) recently completed a port visit to Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Aug. 2.

The port visit served to enhance U.S.-Spanish relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure, and prosperous Europe.

Quotes:

"This port visit allowed the crew of The Sullivans to learn and explore a region with rich history and tradition. We were all very excited to take advantage of all the opportunities in Palma de Mallorca after a busy deployment."

"My Sailors thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the culture and learning the local history of Palma de Mallorca. After all their success over deployment, this port visit comes at a critical time so we can refocus and keep supporting U.S. interests while forward deployed." - Cmdr. Gil Clark, commanding officer, USS The Sullivans (DDG 68)

Quick Facts:

While in port, The Sullivans crew members participated in a community relations (COMREL) project with Project Humanity -- a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center -- took tours of the area around Palma de Mallorca, and enjoyed local beaches and restaurants.

Command leadership met with colleagues from the Spanish navy and army, including the commander of naval forces of the Balearic Islands and commanding general of the Balearic Islands.

The Sullivans is a ballistic missile defense-capable guided-missile destroyer. It can travel in excess of 30 knots, and has a company of approximately 340 Sailors.

The Sullivans, homeported in Mayport, Florida, is conducting naval operations in support maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
