Sailors from the "Grey Knights" of Patrol Squadron (VP) 46 participated in a street cleanup July 30 as part of the Adopt-A-Street program.
Sailors from the "Grey Knights" of Patrol Squadron (VP) 46 participated in a street cleanup July 30 as part of the Adopt-A-Street program.

Early that morning, members of VP-46's Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) and CPO 365 gathered on Northeast Regatta Drive at Olympic View Elementary School to commence the cleanup efforts. VP-46 CSADD joined with the Adopt-A-Street program to provide an opportunity for Sailors to have a positive impact on their community.

"You learn humility cleaning up a mess you had no part in making," said Personnel Specialist 3rd Class Christopher Dukes, a CSADD member. "It's inspiring to see people in the squadron out there with you making a difference."

The squadron's commanding officer, Cmdr. Chad J. Livingston, and Command Master Chief (CMC) Jonathon Fields also took part in the event.

"It shows morale," said Dukes. "Seeing the 'Skipper' and CMC out there really shows that our leaders support us."

Fields said he was proud of his fellow shipmates and was pleased with the amount of people who joined in the cleanup effort.

"We had an amazing turn out," said Fields. "Everyone was motivated, and you could really tell everyone wanted to be there."

The participants filled eight trash bags along a one-mile stretch of road.

"It grows camaraderie," said Fields. "Being out there and making an impact together not only shows support for our community, it also demonstrates that we support each other."
