Sailors Receive Rate Training

Personnel Specialists (PS) assigned to USS John C. Stennis' (CVN 74) administration department received training on changes happening in their rating, Sept. 19.

Master Chief Personnel Specialist Paul Smith, the technical advisor for the personnel specialist rating at the Bureau of Navy Personnel Navy Personnel Command, PERS 2, visited the ship and updated the PSs on upcoming changes, including introducing the new command pay personnel administration (CPPA) Navy enlisted classification (NEC) specialty available to Sailors in the PS, yeoman and Navy counselor rating.

"The training was to develop and improve the way our rate is emerging," said Smith. "Things are happening, we are making a difference."

During the training, Smith also discussed new billets that would be available and new ways PSs and CPPAs will be trained.

"This training was very beneficial to me and my fellow Sailors," said Personnel Specialist Seaman Ethan Vernon, from Merengo, Ohio. "I learned a lot about my job and rate, and look forward to what is to come."

John C. Stennis is conducting a routine maintenance availability following a deployment to U.S. 7th and 3rd fleet areas of operation.
