A Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain logistics specialist seaman was promoted through the accelerated advancement program (AAP) Jan. 10.

Logistics Specialist Seaman Wellynette Vinson was nominated and promoted to petty officer third class due to her exceptional performance and professionalism exhibited while in "A" school and within the first six months of her first duty station at NAVSUP FLC Bahrain.

The AAP is designed to recognize Sailors who display outstanding performance and high potential for leadership. When selected for the AAP, Sailors are able to advance to the rank of E-4 at their next command.

Vinson, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, said being nominated for participation in the AAP and receiving her promotion has reminded her that all the hard work that she has put in from "A" school to present has not gone unnoticed.

"It's a daily reminder that you get out of the Navy what you put in, so I should always put my best foot forward and give it my all," said Vinson.

Present at the promotion ceremony was her sister Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Pamela Golden who participated in the advancement ceremony by putting Vinson's new rank on her uniform.

"I've never been asked to do anything like that for anyone I have met in the Navy," said Golden. "For my first time [to pin on a rank] to be my sister made me recognize that age, time in rate, or billet falls short to the respect that comes with putting on a new rank."

Both Vinson and Golden are currently stationed in Bahrain, serving in the U.S. Navy with Vinson swearing in December 2014 and Golden in February 2011. Even though they serve in different rates, Vinson a logistics specialist and Golden a hospital corpsman, they both radiate with Navy pride.

"My inspiration for joining was being able to travel the world and help people," said Vinson of why she joined. "Even if it's in the smallest of ways, I wanted to do something great with my life."

Golden recalled her inspiration began during a track meet.

"I was running track for UT Arlington at a meet in Iowa and saw the Naval Academy and my heart jumped and everything in me said that's where I should be," said Golden. "It was like a force I should be a part of."

So they joined, three years a part. Each of them compelled to serve in the Navy, both stationed in the same location supporting each other's careers in the Navy.

"I was really nervous about serving my first tour in Bahrain, but as luck would have it, my baby sister was deployed here shortly after I arrived!" said Vinson of when she learned that her sister would be joining her in Bahrain.

"Service clearly runs in the family and I am truly honored that her sister also stationed forward in Bahrain was able to pin the new rank on her," said Capt. Sean Egge, commanding officer NAVSUP FLC Bahrain.

For Vinson and Golden, serving in the same branch and being stationed in the same location has served to grow their relationship with each other.

"I have always been able to come to my sister and now our connection has deepened," said Golden.

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain is part of NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS), which provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of more than 6,500 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units, and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
