NAVSUP Names New Vice Commander

Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP), Rear Adm. Jonathan A. Yuen announced March 14 the selection of a new vice commander, replacing the current vice commander who will be retiring in April.

The Senior Executive Service (SES) position at NAVSUP will be filled by Michael T. Madden, who currently serves as the Marine Corps Logistics Command senior civilian providing comprehensive logistics/supply chain and distribution management; depot level maintenance and strategic prepositioning support to all operating forces, other agencies and organizations; and is the principal adviser to the two-star commanding general. Prior to his present assignment he served as deputy comptroller/comptroller, NAVSUP.

Madden graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was commissioned from the ROTC program as an ensign, Supply Corps, in the U.S. Navy in 1979. He had numerous tours ashore and afloat in his 20-year career. He retired in 1999 as a commander. He received a bachelor's degree in math/computer science from The Citadel in 1979.

Madden holds a master's in information systems from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a master's in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College. He is a graduate of the Advanced Executive Program, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University; a graduate of the Navy Executive Leadership Forum, The Brookings Institution; and is a member of the Acquisition Professional Community. Madden was awarded the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award in June 2001 and the Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award in January 2005. He was awarded the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive in 2007 and Presidential Rank Award of Distinguished Executive in 2012.

Madden replaces John C. Goodhart, who has served as NAVSUP's vice commander since 2006.
