A senior chief assigned to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) chose a special family member to conduct his reenlistment, his 20-year old son who is currently enrolled in Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC), in Virginia Beach, March 11.

Senior Chief Explosive Ordnance Technician Brian Cantrell wanted to mark this special occasion by involving his son in this special ceremony as his other family members and NECC staff watched as the oath of enlistment was rendered.

"It truly was an honor to be reenlisted by my son," said Cantrell, who reenlisted for six additional years.
The feeling was mutual for Cantrell's son who is in his sophomore year at Virginia Tech where he is studying physics with a hope of pursuing a career in naval aviation.

"There is a big emphasis in serving in the military in my family," said Cadet Corporal Austin Cantrell. "No one in my family has done a reenlistment like this before."

The younger Cantrell added that following in his dad's footsteps by serving in the military was something he knew he always wanted to do.

"I'm impressed with his accomplishments he has made during his naval career," said Cantrell.

NECC is an enduring warfighting force providing sea-to-shore and inland operating environment capabilities across the full range of military operations, that is focused on delivering combat effective expeditionary forces ready for worldwide operations now and into the future.
