Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast Registered Professional Geologist/Remedial Project Manager Dana Hayworth was presented with a NAVFAC Environmental Restoration Employee of the Year Award, March 22, during an informal ceremony at the command's offices on board Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

NAVFAC Southeast Environmental Business Line Coordinator Camille Destafney presented the award on behalf of NAVFAC Headquarters Assistant Commander for Environmental Programs Larry Douchand.

"Receiving this award was a complete surprise on my part," said Hayworth. "It is the perfect top-off to a 30-year career as a professional geologist."

The NAVFAC Environmental Restoration Employee of Year is an award given out to the Facilities Engineering Command Remedial Project Manager who has made the most significant impact on the Environmental Restoration, Navy program explained Destafney.

"Dana was nominated and then competed against all the other RPMs and technical support in NAVFAC Southeast," said Destafney. "He was specifically singled out for his outstanding work and ability to close-out sites to meet Department of the Navy metrics."

The award write-up stated that, "Dana is a very humble individual who has an excellent attitude, leads by example, and single-handedly resolves problems with little input from supervisors. He is a credit to NAVFAC Southeast and to the Navy as a whole, and we are proud he's a member of our team!"

Hayworth has worked for NAVFAC Southeast in the Environmental Restoration Program since March 2008. He plans to retire this April after completing a 30-year career working in environmental consulting for private/ commercial industries, the Environmental Protection Agency in Atlanta, the U.S. Air Force in the Environmental Restoration Program at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, and finally NAVFAC Southeast.
