Sailors assigned to Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group, Underwater Construction Team 1, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Expeditionary Support Unit 2 participated in a career day at Corporate Landing Middle School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Mar. 25.

Chief Boatswain's Mate Cynthia Vanhorn, of NAVELSG, enjoyed volunteering at Corporate Landing Middle School to highlight the many career choices the students may consider.

"This event provides a lot of opportunities for the children to be more aware of how they can contribute and be a part of society," said Vanhorn.

Chief Navy Counselor Cheyenne Delahunt, assigned to NAVELSG, enjoyed meeting with students who could be the next generation of Sailors to join the Navy.

"These types of events are important to show young people the variety of opportunities that exist, but also provides an opportunity for us to meet with them," said Delahunt. She added that some of these students may join the military down the road, so it is great to foster that understanding of the many career choices the Navy provides.

Builder 1st Class Joseph Hawthorne, of UCT 1, noted how these events can highlight real world jobs available to students after graduation.

"It is nice that we are able to provide the younger generation with opportunities to figure out what they want to do when they grow up," said Hawthorne.
