A retired chief explosive ordnance technician, who transitioned from the military and continues to serve as a civilian, was selected as Navy Expeditionary Combat Command's (NECC) civilian of the month, Sept. 1.

Ken Sutliff, the Readiness and Cost Reporting Program deputy program manager for NECC and NECC Pacific, has been assigned to the command since 2007 and said he appreciates the recognition for his achievements.

"I retired from active duty from NECC's N3 shop in 2008 and appreciate the opportunity to continue serving this command but wearing a different uniform to do so," he said.

Nancy Harned, executive director for NECC, praised Sutliff for his enthusiasm and dedication to accomplish the command's mission.

"Our civilians are a vital part of NECC's success in ensuring the Navy's expeditionary forces are properly manned, trained, and equipped," she added. "The work done by NECC civilians [is] often done behind the scenes, so I am very proud to recognize Mr. Sutliff's accomplishments by naming him Civilian of the Month for September."

According to Harned, Sutliff plays a unique role in managing readiness and resources across the force. She praised his work, saying it has significantly contributed to leaderships' ability to clearly quantify the level and scope of effort required to achieve mission objectives

"Thanks to his efforts, our Readiness and Cost Reporting System is a reliable tool that accurately tracks readiness and resource requirements across the force," said Harned. "He coordinated all training evolutions that supported training requirements at 16 NECC commands, including its outliers, and totaled approximately 962 personnel trained."

Each month, NECC recognizes a civilian of the month who is instrumental in supporting warfighting effectiveness across our active, reserve, and civilian force.

NECC is an enduring warfighting force providing sea-to-shore and inland operating environment capabilities across the full range of military operations that is focused on delivering combat effective expeditionary forces ready for worldwide operations now and into the future.
