NAVFAC Southeast awarded an indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) architect-engineering contract with a maximum amount of $7.5 million to KTU+A (small business), out of San Diego, California, Sept. 16.

The contract is for professional planning and engineering services in the NAVFAC Southeast area of responsibility.

"A single-award IDIQ contract allows for task orders to be negotiated and awarded under that contract by a contracting officer at unspecified times within the duration of the contract. This type of contract provides a certain amount of contract process streamlining as requirements become known," said Renee Comfort, NAVFAC Southeast chief contracting officer and acquisition director.

KTU+A is being awarded the first task order of $106,190 for developing Basic Facility Requirements and DD 1391s for the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Eglin Air Force Base, Valparaiso, Fla.

The work to be performed provides for plans, studies, and project and facility planning documents. This contract may also be used for design services at activities located within the entire NAVFAC AOR (worldwide) through September 2018.

Work for this task order is expected to be completed by September 2016.

Small business play a vital role in the American economy - employing half of our country's workforce, creating nearly two out of every three new American jobs, and often being the source of the next great American innovation. NAVFAC Southeast strives to meet its goals building on its success by providing contract opportunities to small businesses.

"For NAVFAC, small business is always the first option," said NAVFAC Southeast Small Business Deputy Nelson Smith. "NAVFAC Southeast has continuously shown a strong commitment to small businesses in fulfilling our mission requirements."

Each year NAVFAC establishes target goals for Small Business, Small Disadvantaged Business, Historically Underutilized Business Zone Small Business, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, and Women-Owned Small Business categories. Smith explained that the maximum practicable utilization of small business concerns is a matter of national interest with both social and economic benefits.
