Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) graduated 13 Sailors in its fourth Naval Afloat Maintenance Training Strategy (NAMTS) ceremony 2015 on Main Street in Building CEP-200 aboard Naval Station Norfolk (NSN), Oct. 7.

MARMC Sailors enrolled in the NAMTS program receive on the job training (OJT) which assists them in gaining one of 16 potential Navy Enlisted Classifications (NEC).

"This is always a great occasion to come over to CEP-200 and recognize these Sailors who have completed the NAMTS program," said MARMC Commanding Officer Capt. Steven Stancy, "NAMTS is a very important part of the work we do at MARMC. This program gives Sailors ship maintenance and repair training so when they go back to sea, they have additional skills to keep their ships operational and fully mission ready without having to seek assistance from the outside to support that mission."

NAMTS NECs are drilled down to a specific trade that corresponds with a Sailor's rate. Sailors are given 18 months to complete their NEC, but most are able to finish within a few months, giving them time to receive training in another area to potentially gain an additional NEC.

"I hope folks are aware that you can attain more than one NEC," said Stancy. "Sailors that are here on regular orders are required to do one, but the option is available for you to earn more. Earning your NEC shows initiative, improves your level of knowledge and lastly, it improves fleet readiness."

NAMTS training is available to Sailors on shore duty at regional maintenance centers, intermediate maintenance activities or facilities, shipyards and aboard tenders, as well as those stationed on ships undergoing extended maintenance availabilities.

"I ask all of you to keep up the hard work. I am really proud of you for all of the accomplishments you've made here," said Stancy. "Congratulations to you all."
