In honor of Veterans Day, a dozen Sailors assigned to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) participated in a special pinning ceremony for veterans Nov. 9, at a senior assisted living facility in Hampton.

Chief Personnel Specialist Michael Payne, assigned to NECC, coordinated the Veterans Day activity to recognize the service of those before them who have paved the way.

"It is an honor to meet with these veterans. We have an opportunity to connect with past service members and instill our Sailors Creed of representing those who have gone before us," said Payne.

The pinning ceremony was held at the Commonwealth Assisted Living of Hampton.

Anastasia Economou, hospice community educator, Medi Home Health and Hospice is appreciative of the Sailors' interest in meeting with the veterans.

"We are dedicated and honored to have our active-duty military as part of the Veterans Day ceremony," said Economou. "The Sailors are there to pin and thank the veteran that has paved the way for them. The aging veteran is honored that the young military has not forgotten them."

Some of the veterans NECC Sailors will be meeting with are those who served in World War II and the Korean War.

"We are so thankful to the men and women who serve our great nation. It is such an honor for Medi Home Health and Hospice to put on a rich military flag waving ceremony to thank all of our veterans," Economou added.
