Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center (NAVSUP FLC) Norfolk recognized 21 officers, Sailors and civilian employees who have completed one or more of three levels of qualification certifying them as Logistics Support Representatives (LSRs) in a Nov. 4 ceremony.

All 21 are assigned to the NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Logistics Support Center (LSC). The LSC is the afloat customer's single gateway for face-to-face waterfront logistics services. The organization serves as an extension of shipboard supply departments, positioned to shift the workload from afloat customers to shore-based resources.

At NAVSUP FLC Norfolk, the LSR training covers functional areas such as FLC organizations and partners, afloat supply department organization, LSC fundamentals, and husbanding support.

The training used the NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS) established personnel qualification standards, which encompass three levels - apprentice, journeyman and master LSR - and concentrated on completing all required sections for the apprentice-level standard to prepare course attendees for the final qualification board.

The most recent group of qualifiers included five apprentices, 15 journeymen, and one master level LSR - the first ever from NAVSUP FLC Norfolk to qualify at that level.

"Though it wasn't mandatory, this training is extremely beneficial," said NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Logistics Support Officer Lt. Cmdr. Derek Jones. "It will definitely help us be ready to support our customers, and it will certainly help me be a mentor to younger Sailors."

Jones added that there are plans to offer this training to the fleet so they can have a better understanding of the processes LSRs use to assist their customers and enable fleet Sailors to become more proficient. He also said that while completion of the training doesn't result in any additional consideration towards advancement, it makes them more competitive by exposing them to more processes and helps them to become more well-rounded Sailors.

NAVSUP FLC Norfolk's LSC team stands ready to assist afloat supply officers with day-to-day logistics mission and can efficiently track and coordinate any requirements supply officers may have, from help in obtaining vehicles to delivering mail to the ship. While a ship is in port, LSRs working at the LSCs assist with supply-related evolutions such as bearer walkthroughs to ensure the most efficient use of Sailors' time.
