24 November 2015
Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic recognized guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) as a recipient of the Logistics Readiness Excellence Award (LREA) for fiscal year 2015.
Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic recognized guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) as a recipient of the Logistics Readiness Excellence Award (LREA) for fiscal year 2015.

The award highlights the efforts and accomplishments of logistics specialists (LS) in Dunham's S-1 Division.

"This award is about taking care of everyone aboard the ship," said Rear Adm. Jonathan A. Yuen, commander, Naval Supply Systems Command. "I've never gotten to present this award, and it's an honor to present it to you. Your CO is rightfully proud and I want to thank all of you for what you do for [your] ship."

Yuen presented the LREA to Dunham Supply Officer Lt. Lauren Peters, on behalf of the logistics specialists during an awards ceremony aboard the ship, Nov. 19.

"It's awesome to the win the award," said Peters. "I know the award is pretty new and it's great that the LSs finally get the recognition they deserve for all of their hard work."

Dunham's assistant supply officer Ens. Chloe Hunt said it was exciting to accept the LREA, and added that the award truly belongs to the hard-working LSs aboard Dunham.

The LREA was devised in collaboration between Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic and Commander, Naval Surface Force Pacific. Throughout the fleet, logistics specialists perform tasks essential to combat-readiness.

"It's very important for the LSs. Different ratings in supply have always had awards and recognition programs, and this award was long overdue for the hard work they do" said Master Chief Logistics Specialist Fernando Arlanza. "It's important, especially for the junior Sailors, to know that we appreciate what they do and it should inspire them to do more."

The winners of the LREA were recognized for superior performance from Oct. 2014 to Sept. 2015. The ships were selected based on three categories: the ships' Supply Management Certification score, accountability, and sustainability.
