Guided-missile destroyer USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) entered the Mediterranean Sea, Nov. 29, after transiting the Strait of Gibraltar.

Bulkeley and ships and aircraft from the Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 8, including the flagship USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) with embarked squadrons of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 28, USS Anzio (CG 68), USS Gravely (DDG 107), USS Ramage (DDG 61), and USS Gonzalez (DDG 66), departed their homeport at Norfolk Naval Station, Nov. 16, as part of a regularly scheduled deployment.

"The crew is excited to be entering this phase of our deployment," said Cmdr. Mac Harkin, Bulkeley's executive officer. "We are looking forward to operating with our partners in this region."

"Partnerships matter. No single nation can combat global threats alone," added Bulkeley's Cmdr. Hank Allen, commanding officer. "Through our partnerships, we are able to share information, share experiences, and work together for regional stability."

The deployment is part of a regular rotation of forces to support maritime security operations, provide crisis response capability, increase theater security cooperation, and sustain forward naval presence in the 5th and 6th Fleet Areas of Operation.
