Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) announced its Small Activity Civilian of the Quarter (COQ) for the first quarter of 2015 April 13.

Michelle Ainsworth, a training specialist for CSCS Detachment (Det) East, was honored to be selected.

"My Officer-in-Charge, Cmdr. Tim Riegle, contacted me when he was on leave to notify me I was selected," Ainsworth stated. "I was pleasantly surprised."

According to Riegle, Ainsworth's selection is an accolade that is long overdue.

"Since she joined the Det East team a little over a year ago, no one at the Det has worked harder or done more for our Sailors than Ms. Ainsworth," he said. "From her work revamping many of our internal Learning Standards Office (LSO) practices to her daily efforts improving every aspect of instruction, her work has been tireless and has set a new standard for excellence."

Ainsworth is responsible for Instructor Qualification/ Certification and the Electronic Training Resource Management System (eTRMS) at the Det.

"I also conduct course revisions and assist with the development of new courses," she said.

Ainsworth served on active duty in the Navy for 20 years. She retired as a Chief Electronics Technician from Det East in April 2014 and began her civilian career at the Det within the same month.

"I truly love my job," Ainsworth said. "I am interacting with the military on a daily basis, creating future curriculum for Sailors, and most importantly, supporting my command and the Navy's missions. My goal is to always provide my best to CSCS and the Navy."

Her impact this last quarter expanded well beyond Det East as she traveled to CSCS learning sites in Yokosuka, Pearl Harbor and San Diego.

"At each of these sites, she worked with fellow LSOs and local instructors to review course curriculum and instructor paperwork ensuring all training across the domain is coordinated and uniform," Riegle explained. "Her work has built new bridges of cooperation between the learning sites that will undoubtedly pay dividends for years to come. I wish I had ten more like her."

CSCS' mission is to develop and deliver surface ship combat systems training to achieve surface warfare superiority. CSCS headquarters' staff oversees 14 learning sites, including CSCS Det East, and provides nearly 70,000 hours of curriculum for 700 annual courses to more than 40,000 Sailors. CSCS delivers specialized training for officer and enlisted Sailors required to tactically operate, maintain, and employ shipboard and shore-based weapons, sensors, and command and control systems utilized in today's navy.
