Military leaders and civilian personnel attached to Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Sigonella and NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS) gathered in a training room at Naval Air Station Sigonella to attend a Dr. Stephen Covey training workshop.

Dr. Stephen Covey's training workshop, "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" was facilitated by Jay Stanley, a Certified FranklinCovey Facilitator.

Stanley has been facilitating the workshop for 10 years and has a passion for sharing his knowledge with others. "I still get a genuine kick out of the excitement and discovery that the 3-day workshop can bring into people's personal and professional lives. The habits are all common sense, but rarely common practice," Stanley expressed.

The workshop was based on the proven principles of author Dr. Stephen R. Covey that lead to achieving sustained and lasting success. In order to reach this goal, you must be able to effectively lead yourself, influence, engage, and collaborate with others and continuously improve and renew your capabilities.

NAVSUP FLC Sigonella's Operations Officer, Cmdr. Melvey, believes that, "It is good to regularly sharpen the skills that are covered in this class. Especially the ability to properly prioritize and plan, along with a renewed focus on spending energy on long-term things that will ultimately save large amounts of time and frustration."

Personnel that manage several projects, have expanding workloads, and stiff deadlines were invited to attend the workshop. Brooke Garwood, a NAVSUP FLC Sigonella supply management specialist, felt that the workshop helped her to prioritize her tasks by the level of importance. Garwood remarked, "The fascinating thing about this training is that it offered a very easy approach to the everyday things that are so simple and yet so complicated at the same time. I have been able to be more proactive and less reactive which is reducing stress and I feel more productive and efficient - like I just received a tune up."

NAVSUP FLC Sigonella and NAVSUP GLS Personnel learned how to take initiative, balance key priorities, improve interpersonal communication, leverage creative collaboration, and apply principles for achieving a balanced life. The personnel not only learned, but also used processes and tools to live and apply the 7 Habits.

Angel Leibfreid, a NAVSUP FLC Sigonella business office employee, said, "I expected to be in training that focused only on time management tools and tricks for work but I found myself in a training that provided insight and guidance for all areas of my life!"

Upon completion of the workshop, Gerry Harms, executive director of NAVSUP FLC Sigonella asked the group if they would recommend this workshop to others and every single hand in the room shot up into the air immediately!

"I recommend this course to everyone, and even if you've already been, I definitely recommend a refresher. Habits are hard to make and hard to break, so you can't think that just by attending this course one time, you'll make a habit and make it last forever. I've taken the course several times and each time I've learned more, not only about myself but I have gained more awareness of my intercultural surroundings," said Rose La Rocca, financial management analyst, NAVSUP FLC Sigonella liaison office.

The training was a true success with 24 graduates. Each graduate has the ability to see, understand, and interpret the world through a new paradigm. Expectantly, they will "carry their own weather" and utilize their new skills to influence everyone that they communicate with in the future.
