U.S. Fleet Forces (USFF) Command held a dedication ceremony for the late John D. Choplinsky, a former USFF staff civil service member, aboard Naval Support Activity-Hampton Roads (NSA-HR), April 30.
U.S. Fleet Forces (USFF) Command held a dedication ceremony for the late John D. Choplinsky, a former USFF staff civil service member, aboard Naval Support Activity-Hampton Roads (NSA-HR), April 30.

USFF decided to name an auditorium after Choplinsky due to his tireless devotion and service to the fleet.

Adm. Phil Davidson, commander, USFF command and more than 150 staff members, welcomed Choplinsky's family to the auditorium as Choplinsky's life, career and legacy were recognized.

"I'm honored to be a part of this event since being intimately involved with John and seeing first-hand how tirelessly he worked to make the fleet and the Navy better," said Rear Adm. John Polowczyk, director, Fleet Ordnance Supply at USFF command.

"It's not often we dedicate an auditorium to a public servant," said Davidson. "This one was special. We must recognize his contribution, not only as a civil servant but as a patriot."

After giving a dedication speech, Davidson welcomed Choplinsky's family on stage to unveil the dedication memorial/plaque and to honor them for the support they gave Choplinsky which led to his outstanding and unparalleled career.

Choplinsky began his career in the Federal Service as a civilian employee with the U.S. Navy at Naval Air Station Oceana in 1971 and later, Commander-in-Chief U.S. Atlantic Fleet (CINCLANT FLT), Norfolk, Virginia, as the U. S. Fleet Forces Deputy Fleet comptroller until 2013, when he accepted a role on a special financial project with the U.S. Navy. He received many awards throughout his career but was especially proud and humbled when he was presented the Navy's Distinguished Civilian Service Award in 2011.

"I think it is incredible fitting that his legacy lives on in this particular auditorium. This is a place where we do so much. We give strategic guidance, we hold professional training in here, and we celebrate people in awards. This is the environment I want John's name affixed to in this headquarters for many years to come," said Davidson. "We try our best to honor him and I hope we will all emulate the character traits that made him so effective and beloved, not just here in this staff but across the Navy. I truly hope this auditorium will serve as an inspiration for all who enter"
