Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Headquarters celebrated Public Service Recognition Week with its civilian and military personnel May 6.

Public Service Recognition Week is a time set aside to honor the men and women who serve as federal, state, and local government employees. This year's theme is "Government Works."

Rear Adm. Jonathan A. Yuen, commander, Naval Supply Systems Command and Chief of Supply Corps, began the ceremony by saying, "We are here to celebrate Public Service Recognition Week which has been in place since 1985. We do a lot of military appreciation, so it's nice that we take time out to recognize the civilian workforce as well -- who bring a great deal to the fight."

During his remarks, Yuen commented that similar to naval officers, enlisted and military civilian reservists, civilians also take the oath of office to support the Constitution of the United States. He also stated, "I think about all the folks and the reason why I am where I'm at today is because of the training I received from the civilian workforce -- it's that anchor of continuity." Yuen mentioned the many civilians that have made an impact on his career and added, "That's what this week is all about, to say thank you to our civilian employees for what you've done for us all, to make us strong."

In closing, Yuen said, "I'm proud to recognize civilians for what you bring to the fight every single day, thank you."
