American Medical Association (AMA) President-elect Steven Stack, M.D., visited Naval Hospital (NH) Jacksonville May 18 to meet with medical staff. Dr. Stack briefed those in attendance on the health and wellness of the nation and the strategic focus of AMA: improving health outcomes, accelerating change in medical education, and professional satisfaction and practice sustainability.

Dr. Stack also praised Navy physicians saying, "It is impossible for me to come on a military base, see all of you in uniform and see the things you do, and not feel an intense debt of gratitude for what you do for our men and women in uniform."

Dr. Stack is an emergency physician residing in Lexington, Kentucky, and will be sworn in as AMA president next month. While in Jacksonville, he also keynoted Duval County Medical Society's annual meeting.

NH Jacksonville's priority since its founding in 1941 is to heal the nation's heroes and their families. The command is comprised of the Navy's third largest hospital and five branch health clinics across Florida and Georgia. There are more than 71,000 active and retired Sailors, Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, Guardsmen and their families enrolled with a primary care manager and Medical Home Port team at one of its facilities.
