Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Mike Stevens visited Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) June 4 where he met with NAVSUP leadership, the area CPO Mess, and hosted an all-hands call.

During the visit, Stevens was briefed on NAVSUP's current efforts to provide outstanding quality-of-life support to the fleet. Stevens explained, "Part of my job is supporting the people who are doing the heavy lifting for the warfighter. I know the reason they do what they do comes from the heart."

Stevens had the opportunity to sit down with NAVSUP chief petty officers and first class petty officers for a CPO 365 training evolution. During this session, Stevens emphasized the importance of preparing our first class petty officers, year round, in order to become the best chief petty officers possible. He also took the opportunity to speak about the significance of history and tradition.

Stevens spoke to a gathering of NAVSUP civilians and military in the afternoon. "Our greatest strength of our nation is our people. Without diversity, our Navy would not be what our Nation needs it to be today, and into the future," Stevens explained. "As leaders, we have the responsibility to establish and maintain conditions that provide all of our people the opportunity to be successful, and we do this while treating one another with dignity and respect."

MCPON was asked what he thought is one of the best qualities of leadership. He said, "The most coveted trait a leader can have is listening, a skill I've come to appreciate over the years."

"It is a great honor for us to host MCPON Stevens," said NAVSUP Commander Rear Adm. Jonathan A. Yuen. "Your presence has given us the resilience to continue the fight. I feel energized and optimistic about the future of the supply community."
