In a traditional observance in front of a gathering of Sailors and civilian staff, Training Support Center (TSC) San Diego held a change of command ceremony, July 7.

Capt. John Wilshusen relieved Capt. Robert Beauchamp as commanding officer of TSC San Diego. Beauchamp, who led the command for the past 23 months, will report to the staff of Commander, Naval Surface Forces Atlantic, in Norfolk, Virginia.

Rear Adm. Michael White, commander, Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), was a guest speaker for the ceremony and praised Beauchamp for his contributions to the readiness of Sailors in the fleet.

"He established the first-ever training network connectivity for learning sites in Japan and Guam, giving forward deployed units access to crucial training materials in support of fleet requirements," White said. "His fleet liaison team built partnerships with their fleet counterparts to improve quota availability for courses, and to ensure Sailors' participation in training. The NETC motto is 'Fleet Readiness Starts Here.' The outstanding work by the team at TSC San Diego exemplifies that."

During the ceremony, Beauchamp thanked his family and individually recognized each of his departments for their hard work and dedication to earning the Training Support Excellence Award for the past six years.

Wilshusen reports to TSC San Diego from the Military Sealift Command.

"Capt. Wilshusen is well-qualified and his prior service as a mustang will provide wisdom to the command," said White. "I am confident in his exemplary leadership abilities and dedication to preserving the integrity of our training and improving the training of our Sailors throughout the fleet."

Wilshusen praised the TSC San Diego staff for providing a solid foundation for learning, and said he is eager to provide the best possible Sailors to the fleet.

"I look forward to working with each of you to continue building on TSC San Diego's hard-earned and well-deserved reputation as the Navy's premier training support organization," Wilshusen added.
