On Mar. 20, U.S. Navy civilian employee at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Public Works Department Annapolis tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The individual is quarantined at home in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and is being monitored by the Anne Arundel County Department of Health.
The individual was interviewed by both the Public Works Officer and Installation Public Health Emergency Officer (PHEO) about his movements on the installation, timeframe he was at those locations, and people with whom he had close contact. The individual was last on the installation Friday, March 13.
Personnel who the individual immediately identified having close contact with at Public Works Department Annapolis, U.S. Naval Academy, and Naval Support Activity Annapolis have been notified. Additionally, contractor employees who may have been in contact with the individual have been notified. Personnel have been advised to self-assess their level of contact (duration, proximity) and restrict their movement as warranted.
PWD Annapolis and installation spaces in which the individual worked are scheduled to be cleaned the weekend of March 21-22.
NAVFAC Washington took all immediate and appropriate actions upon learning of the employee’s positive diagnosis for COVID-19 and is committed to taking every measure possible to protect the health of our force. We remain in close coordination with state and federal public health authorities to ensure the well-being of our personnel and local population.
