On the weekend of July 11, six local Navy reservists assigned to NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville volunteered to drill on-site to conduct inventory spot checks onboard Naval Station Mayport. Despite the option to work remotely, the Jacksonville area Sailors chose to show up in-person, utilizing personal protective equipment and physical distancing.

The contributions of reservists during drill weekends have long been an important factor in helping to ensure material readiness. According to NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville Site Mayport Material Control Officer, Lt. Cameron Henry, “Reservists play a key role in maintaining a warehouse consumable validity over 99 percent. With more than 4,500 line items to count annually, the hard charging reservists are able to conduct spot checks of roughly 450 lines or about 10 percent of the inventory.” Henry added, “This monthly 10 percent gives my inventory team a wider picture and understanding of our inventory accuracy and health of the warehouse operation.”

When asked how this inventory evolution fits into the broad picture of reservist support, NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville Commanding Officer, Capt. William Clarke, pointed to it as “another great example of how reservists provide critical support.” Clarke went on to say, “In the midst of the COVID-19 environment and reduced footprint on our bases, this count would have been much more difficult without their support.”

As NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville continues to provide joint warfighter support throughout the Southeast Region, Navy reservists will remain a key component to ensuring material readiness and mission success.

NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville is one of eight FLCs under Commander, NAVSUP. Headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and employing a diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel, NAVSUP's mission is to provide supplies, services, and quality-of-life support to the Navy and joint warfighter.
