Sailors assigned to USS Constitution will participate in a Navy Week in Sacramento, California, July 16-22.

Constitution Sailors will kick off their participation with a community relations and beautification project at the Colonial Park in Sacramento.

They will give presentations at the State Fair in the California Expo Center, Powerhouse Science Center and the Boys and Girls Club on Lemon Hill Ave. Additionally, Constitution Sailors will perform color guard details at the California Expo Center July 16 and July 19.

"Navy Weeks are some of the best opportunities that our Sailors get to experience while stationed aboard USS Constitution," said Cmdr. John A. Benda, Constitution's Executive Officer. "It gives them an opportunity to take what they've learned at Constitution and share that history and enthusiasm with the rest of the country."

This is the seventh Navy Week that Constitution Sailors have participated in this year. They participated in similar activities in San Antonio, Tampa and Chattanooga, TN.

The primary purpose of the Navy Week program is to increase Navy awareness by presenting the Navy to Americans who live in cities that normally do not have a significant naval presence. Sacramento Navy Week will showcase the mission, capabilities and achievements of the U.S. Navy and provide residents the opportunity to meet Sailors firsthand.

Constitution, America's Ship of State, actively defended sea lanes against global threats from 1797-1855. The world's oldest commissioned warship afloat, Constitution embodies 220 years of maritime heritage and unwavering service to her country. Now a featured destination on Boston's Freedom Trail, Constitution and her crew of active duty U.S. Navy Sailors offer community outreach and education about the ship's history and the importance of naval sea power to more than 500,000 visitors each year. Constitution is berthed at Pier One in Charlestown Navy Yard.
