Aircraft carriers USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) (Ike) and USS Abraham Lincoln's (CVN 74) hockey teams held a Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) benefit game at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Feb. 25.

The game raised more than $1,000 in funds.

Many of Ike's and Lincoln's shipmates, family members, and friends came out to support with pride. The players all expressed what an honor it was to play in the arena with the support of the command and their shipmates behind them.

Personnel Specialist 2nd Class Travis Cabe, a Sailor assigned to Ike and current team captain of Ike's hockey team, said he was proud to play hockey for a beneficial cause with so much support.

"The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society benefits any Sailor or Marine who serves, so for us to be able to raise funds for that charity means so much to us," said Cabe. "We all love playing hockey, so for us to be able to do something that we love for a great cause is amazing."

The hockey team members were not the only ones to represent Ike. Quartermaster 2nd Class Tiffany Drain, also assigned to Ike, sang the national anthem prior to the start of the game.

"It was absolutely an honor to represent our Navy and the Mighty Ike today by singing the national anthem," said Drain. "It makes me proud to serve."

At the end of the game, Lincoln came out with a win over Ike 8-4. Both teams are preparing for upcoming games.

Ike is currently pierside during the sustainment phase of the Optimized Fleet Response Plan (OFRP).
