U.S. Navy assets in Hawaii are participating in the search for a hiker on Oahu who has been missing since Friday evening, Feb. 27. The search is in consultation with the Honolulu Fire Department.

The "Easyriders" of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 37, equipped with multispectral targeting system capabilities, received a request from the FAA to support an overland search for the missing 18 year old hiker. The area of interest is the ridgeline above the Haiku stairs (Stairway to Heaven); maximum elevation is 3150'.

HFD has been searching since Sunday. Weather interrupted the search on Monday, and there are no other aviation assets available today. The Easyriders are based out of Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe.
