Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Mike Gilday hosted Chief of the Royal Danish Navy Rear Adm. Torben Mikkelsen at the Pentagon for a counterpart visit, Jan. 7.
The leaders discussed areas for mutual cooperation and ways to strengthen the two navies’ partnership, particularly in the area of maritime domain awareness.
“Denmark is a key maritime partner and I am encouraged our navy-to-navy relationship has expanded in the past few years,” said Gilday. “By continuing to work together, we will undoubtedly improve maritime security, stability, and prosperity. Today’s meeting was an important opportunity for us to build upon our solid foundation.”
The U.S. Navy and the Royal Danish Navy routinely operate together throughout the globe, specifically in anti-submarine warfare and integrated air and missile defense.
This is Gilday’s first formal counterpart visit with Mikkelsen.
