USS Frank Cable Holds Change-of-Command Ceremony

USS Frank Cable (AS 40) held a change of command ceremony aboard the ship

The submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) held a change-of-command ceremony aboard the ship, Feb. 7.

Capt. Al Alarcon relieved Capt. Jeff Bierley as the commanding officer of Frank Cable. Rear Adm. Blake Converse, commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMSUBPAC) was the presiding officer over the ceremony.

Bierley has served as commanding officer of Frank Cable since October 2018. Bierley heads to Yokosuka, where he will serve as Commander, Submarine Group 7 Chief of Staff.

Under Bierley’s command, Frank Cable was awarded:  the 2018 Battle "E", Medical Readiness Yellow "M", Repair Red "R," 2018 and 2019 Retention Excellence Awards, SECNAV Environmental Award, CNO Afloat Environmental and CNO Safety Award.

“I want to thank the crew of the Frank Cable for giving me the opportunity to lead this fantastic team, said Bierley. “I am so proud of every one of you and I wish you all the best. Thank you.”

Alarcon reports to Guam after serving as the Deputy Director of Intelligence for Battlespace Awareness and Special Programs on the staff of Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

“I am truly honored to carry forward our ship’s legacy of excellence,” said Alarcon. “I commit myself to your personal and professional development, to the success and the well-being of your families, to our mission readiness and the continuing development of our capabilities here in the Pacific. I look forward to the future successes that we will achieve together.”
