The Navy awarded Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC) the 2019 Personal Excellence Partnership Flagship Award for Community Service in the small overseas commands category Feb. 5.
This award recognizes the best educational partnership program between a Navy command and school or youth service organization each year. Volunteers tutor, mentor, provide technical expertise, and serve as role models with the ultimate goal of improving scholastic achievement; improving social and life skills; and providing vocational guidance.
The Navy Community Service Program is an overarching program to foster community service, create and sustain partnerships with the public at home and abroad, and increase public awareness and understanding of the Navy. One way the Navy accomplishes these objectives is through command-sponsored community service events and programs.
Cmdr. Jeremy Ewing, commanding officer of CFAC, said the Chinhae command benefits from the leadership efforts of an outstanding community outreach specialist, Pak Kyong Ho.
“We have wonderful partners in the local schools of Chinhae and so many kind-hearted volunteers in the CFAC community,” Ewing said. “This outreach goes a long way to garner good will with our local community and provides outstanding support to the ROK-U.S. alliance.”
