Lt. Kyle Combs, a native of Galveston, Texas, and Navy Supply Corps officer assigned to Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Business Systems Center (BSC), in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Feb. 21.
Combs received the award for his meritorious service as a Business Enterprise Management (BEM) intern and project officer at NAVSUP BSC from July 2018 to February 2020.
“Lt. Combs expertly led multiple information system solution initiatives with world-wide warfighter impact,” said Capt. Douglas M. Bridges, Jr., commanding officer, NAVSUP BSC. “His tireless work ethic, exceptional leadership, and complete dedication to duty, reflected credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”
Combs supported key initiatives including the Navy Enterprise Resource Planning site implementation analysis across more than 60 platforms, and participated in engagements with local college students highlighting the importance and complexity of Navy information systems. He also played a role leading NAVSUP BSC’s 2019 Meet the Fleet event, providing an opportunity for Navy civil servants to see how their work at NAVSUP BSC directly impacts fleet warfighters in the Hampton Roads area of operations.
Combs organized multiple professional development tours with Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, expanding the knowledge base of NAVSUP BSC personnel while strengthening relationships with Navy logistics partners.
As the senior BEM Intern, Combs organized a weeklong site visit at NAVSUP BSC for Navy BEM interns to foster collaboration and receive in-depth training about NAVSUP BSC information system applications.
While assigned to NAVSUP BSC, Combs earned a Master's Certificate in Project Management and a Master's Certificate in Program Management from George Washington University; a Master's Certificate in Enterprise Resource Planning with SAP from Pennsylvania State University; a Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Certification as a Life Cycle Logistician (LVL 1); and was named an Honor Graduate of the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, Executive Masters of Business Administration program.
NAVSUP BSC provides the Navy with information systems support through the design, development, and maintenance of systems in the functional areas of logistics, supply chain management, transportation, finance, and accounting.
NAVSUP BSC is one of 11 commands under Commander, Navy Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP). NAVSUP is headquartered in Mechanicsburg and employs a diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel. NAVSUP's mission is to provide supplies, services, and quality-of-life support to the Navy and joint warfighter.
