Sailors and Marines, assigned to the Harpers Ferry-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50), participated in a sports day while in Rio de Janeiro, Aug. 21.
Sailors and Marines took part in various sports and concluded the day with a barbecue alongside partner nations during UNITAS LX (60).
“Sailors and Marines from the USS Carter Hall came together to participate in an international sports day to foster the spirit of UNITAS LX,” said Lt. Cmdr. Rick Williams, the command chaplain on Carter Hall. “The participants made integrated teams representing the various countries to compete in such activities as soccer, golf, and volleyball. Events like today help to strengthen the interoperability and communications skills with our partner nations.”
Carter Hall is currently in port in Rio de Janeiro to participate in UNITAS LX.
UNITAS is an annual, multinational exercise that focuses on strengthening our existing regional partnerships and encourages establishing new relationships through the exchange of maritime mission-focused knowledge and expertise during multinational training operations.
