Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Expeditionary Support Unit (EODESU) 2 Sailors participated in a two-week combat rubber raiding craft (CRRC) training course with instructors from Zodiac MILPRO August 12-30 at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.

The Sailors, all assigned to the EODESU 2service craft and boat accountability report (SABAR) department, are primarily responsible for the maintenance, inventory, control, and dispatch of all rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) and CRRCs assigned to EOD Group (EODGRU) 2.

During the first week of the course, Sailors learned essential maintenance, diagnostics and proper patch and repair of the small boats. 

 “The class laid the basic foundation for us to continue along the line to perfect training and repair for our CRRCs to be serviced to the EOD communities,” said Chief Engineman Michael Guysinger, assigned to EODESU 2.

During week two, Zodiac instructors performed hands-on training on the importance of situational awareness and safety, CRRC capabilities and limitations, navigation, CRRC launch and recover procedures, high-speed maneuvers, towing, man overboard, and capsizing/broaching recovery techniques.  

“All of our guys had a great time learning the hands-on fundamentals as a CRRC operator,” said Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Anthony Mendez, assigned to EODESU 2. 
The maintenance and management of the boats, as well as hands-on operations are essential for the Sailors to maintain their proficiency.  These Sailors will now serve as experts and work to keep the boats in working order for EOD technicians.

EODESU 2 provides supplies, transportation, field services, communications, dive support, ordnance, hazardous material handling, and boat and engine maintenance.  EODESU 2 is vital to maintain the upkeep of commodities and training for all EOD mobile units in EODGRU 2 when conducting global operations.
