Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Mike Gilday is scheduled to visit Sailors assigned to the Navy’s 7th Fleet area of operations, Sept. 22-25.

During his first visit to 7th Fleet as CNO, Gilday will make stops in Japan and the Republic of Korea to engage with Fleet Sailors and meet with senior leaders of the host nations’ navies and government.

“Hearing from Fleet Sailors directly is one of my top priorities,” said Gilday. “This trip will allow me to hear their concerns, and consequently shape our vision for the Navy going forward.”

Gilday said that it was also important for him to meet with leaders and counterparts from both countries individually to discuss areas for continued naval cooperation in the region.

“It is my hope going forward that we will continue to find new areas for collaboration in order to help maintain security, stability, and prosperity within the Indo-Pacific region,” said Gilday.

Seventh Fleet, which celebrated its 75th year in 2018, is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed fleet. It provides security in an area of operations that spans more than 124 million square kilometers with 50-70 ships and submarines, 140 aircraft and approximately 20,000 Sailors.
