Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $27.3 million multiple award construction contract Sept. 26, to The Haskell Company from Jacksonville, Florida, for the design and construction of austere quarters at Andros Islands, Bahamas.
This project addresses deficiencies in both the available quantity and the condition of existing unaccompanied housing facilities for personnel assigned to the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC).
AUTEC is located on Andros Island, Bahamas and provides a deep-water range facility for undersea warfare. The facility supports Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) as well as fleet training, certification, and proficiency exercises resulting in a population of permanent party, who operate the facility and a varying group of visiting range users who conduct exercises or tests.
This project will remove existing substandard housing units and replace them with a new 35,000 square foot two-story unaccompanied housing facility for up to 176 military personnel. The project includes a reinforced concrete foundation, precast concrete panel walls and a built-up roof.
Work will be performed in Andros Islands, Bahamas and is expected to be completed by January 2021.
