CNO to Visit U.S. 6th Fleet

11 October 2019

Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Mike Gilday is scheduled to visit the Navy's 6th Fleet area of operations, Oct. 14-19.

Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Mike Gilday is scheduled to visit the Navy’s 6th Fleet area of operations, Oct. 14-19.

During his visit, Gilday will attend the Regional Seapower Symposium (RSS) in Venice as well as conduct fleet engagements in Rota, Spain and Naples, Italy, to see first-hand the work Sailors are doing in this dynamic area of operations.

“Engaging with our 6th fleet Sailors as well as my counterparts at RSS is very important,” said Gilday. “Building relationships with key partners and discussing areas for mutual cooperation in such an important part of the world is essential to maintaining security and stability in the maritime environment.”

At RSS, Gilday is slated to give a keynote address and take part in the multi-day event, where more than 30 heads of navy will attend.

The theme for RSS is “Shaping our Navies for the Blue Century,” with an aim to identify the possible future of modern navies, considering both conflicts and threats of the maritime domain.
