Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) hosted their monthly awards ceremony in San Diego on October 16.
The ceremony coincided with a visit from Rear Adm. Tom Anderson, Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center (CNRMC) and Deputy Commander, Ship Maintenance and Modernization, Naval Sea Systems Command (SEA 21) allowing Anderson to preside over the event.
“It is always good to recognize the achievement of our Sailors and civilians,” said Anderson. “They are the force behind the Fleet and I was excited to be part of recognizing their contributions to the mission and talking with them about building depth and keeping it upbeat – two of the guiding principles of the CNRMC/SEA21 team.”
More than 40 awards were presented during the ceremony including Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement medals, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medals, and Navy Afloat Maintenance Training Strategy (NAMTS) Certificates. Anderson also presented Letters of Commendation and Appreciation, civilian length of service awards, workforce development job certifications, and SWRMC Civilians and Sailors of the Quarter awards.
“Having Rear Adm. Anderson join us in recognizing the significant contributions of our employees to the Fleet was an added bonus to his visit,” said Capt. David Hart, SWRMC’s commanding officer. “Our Sailors and civilians epitomize our Navy’s core values and are outstanding representatives of SWRMC, CNRMC, and our nation.”
The ceremony came on the heels of SWRMC’s successful collaboration with industry to double-dock USS Stethem (DDG 63) and USS Decatur (DDG 73) in BAE Systems – Ship Repair’s Pride of California dry-dock. The docking event occurred on Oct. 8 and was the first tandem docking on the west-coast since 2011.
The timing of Anderson’s visit to SWRMC allowed him to also visit the dry-dock and meet with members of the SWRMC team who contributed to the docking and are working maintenance on the two ships.
“The teamwork between industry and Navy to double-dock these two ships proves that we understand the urgency and complexity of completing availabilities on schedule and ensuring we have ships ready to return to the Fleet,” said Anderson.
SWRMC is meeting its mission to provide superior ship maintenance, modernization, technical support, and training for the Pacific Fleet.
