Alamo City Twins join America's Navy

25 November 2019

Twin brothers Stephen and George Coppage, of San Antonio, are making final preparations to attend recruit training and becoming Sailors in America’s Navy’s aviation support career field Nov. 20, 2019.

According to Stephen, joining the Navy was something that he always wanted to do since graduating from Louis D. Brandeis High School in 2011.

“At that time, I didn’t have the courage,” said Stephen, who will be shipping to boot camp with his brother in January 2020. “I know it will make me a better person and I want to challenge myself.”

It’s a twin thing says Stephen, who will serve as an aviation electronics technician.

“My brother and I are very competitive and we challenge each other,” said Stephen. “I am super excited and ready for a great journey.”

For George, having the opportunity to travel was one of the keys aspects for joining the Navy.

“I know that in some services, you can get lockdown to a few locations, but not in the Navy,” said George, who will serve as an aviation structural mechanic. “Additionally, I prefer Navy aircraft over that of the Air Force.”

According to George, he likes working with his hands and is following the career field of his grandfather who served as an aviation mechanic in the Air Force.

“Since leaving high school, I’ve been an auto mechanic and roofer,” said George. “I’m looking forward to working on jets, planes and whatever I can get my hands on.”

Both brothers were recruited by Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Aircraft Handler) 2nd Class Brooks Anderson assigned to Navy Recruiting Station (NRS) Mercado.

Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
