The Commanding Officer of Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Colorado announced the command Sailors of the Year (SOY) during the command’s holiday party on Oct. 18.
Cmdr. Chuck Hall announced Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 1st Class Gabriel Foringer as Senior Sailor of the Year (SSOY), Yeoman 2nd Class Sierra Berry as Junior Sailor of the Year (JSOY), and Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 3rd Class Jonathan Selby as the Blue Jacket of the Year (BJOY).
“I am deeply humbled and immeasurably thankful for this nomination,” said Selby, a Hawaii native assigned to the Integrated Discovery Center – West. “It is staggering to be recognized beside so many other amazing sailors that I look up to each day. To the mentors I am blessed to have, I truly would be nowhere without, so thank you.”
The Sailor of the Year program was established in 1972 by the Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Elmo Zumwalt and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy John Whittet to recognize an individual Sailor who best represented the ever-growing group of dedicated professional Sailors at each command and ultimately the Navy.
NIOC Colorado is a subordinate command of U.S. Fleet Cyber Command and comprises Task Group 101 of the U.S. Tenth Fleet. Based at Buckley Air Force Base, its mission is to provide ready, trained, and motivated Information Warfare Officers, Cryptologic Enlisted Personnel, and expertise to support Fleet, combat forces, and National intelligence operations requirements worldwide. NIOC Colorado actively engages in the Global War on Terrorism, while operating in a challenging multi-service, and multinational environment.
