The Naval Education and Training Professional Development Center (NETPDC) announced Nov. 21 the selection of James Larkin as Civilian of the Quarter (COQ), third quarter 2019, and Jessamy McKay Ackerman as COQ, fourth quarter 2019. McKay Ackerman was also awarded Civilian of the Year (COY) 2019.
NETPDC Commanding Officer Capt. Brett St. George presented Larkin and McKay Ackerman with certificates and described the effect their efforts have on the command.
“One of the best parts of my job is to reward our outstanding civilian workforce for their accomplishments,” said St. George. “James and Jessamy have gone above and beyond for the command and their hard work does not go unnoticed. It is their steady and continuous effort that allows us to accomplish our mission of serving Sailors, and we couldn’t do it without them.”
McKay Ackerman, selected as both COQ fourth quarter and COY 2019, works for the Navy College Virtual Education Center (NCVEC) in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Her selection was based on her superior performance in leading the Navy College Program Chatbot effort and assisting with multiple strategic communication initiatives to support policy changes in the tuition assistance program.
McKay Ackerman said she felt honored to receive both awards.
“I owe a great deal to our leadership here at the Navy College Virtual Education Center, who have been very receptive to my ideas and have allowed me to work on projects that I feel passionate about,” said McKay Ackerman.
Team effort also played a major role for McKay Ackerman.
“I am also grateful that I get to work with a remarkable group of education counselors who make it fun to come to work every day, said McKay Ackerman. I am very proud to be on the NCVEC/NETPDC team.”
Larkin serves as an exam development team leader for the Navy Advancement Center in Pensacola, Florida, and was recognized for ensuring the successful administration and management of the Navy’s advancement system, as well as printing, packaging and shipping over 1,700 advancement exams. Larkin, a retired Navy senior chief petty officer, appreciates the recognition of his work.
“It is great to work for a command that acknowledges job accomplishments,” said Larkin. “I’m thankful every day for the opportunity to serve our great country and contribute to its success.”
