Lt. Cmdr. Austin Maxwell transferred responsibility as the officer in charge of the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Det. Goodfellow to Lt. Cmdr. John Allen during a change of charge ceremony, May 9.

Capt. Nick Andrews, commanding officer of CIWT, presided over the event, praising Maxwell for his dedicated leadership and Goodfellow Sailors for their exceptional support for the information warfare training mission.

Under Maxwell’s leadership, the 30 Sailors and four civilians assigned to CIWT Det. Goodfellow trained over 1,810 students delivering over 7036 hours of instruction. They supply enlisted “C” school courses for cryptologic technicians and Department of Defense firefighters from various branches of the military. 

Allen reports from Navy Information Operations Command Pensacola, Florida, and brings 25 years of tactical, operational, and training experience. This is his first tour within the CIWT domain.

“I am truly humbled to become the 18th officer in charge of CIWT Navy Det. Goodfellow, and I am honored to join an outstanding team of professionals in this critical training mission,” said Allen immediately following his assumption of command.

CIWT Det. Goodfellow is one of two detachments assigned to CIWT. With four schoolhouse commands, two detachments, and training sites throughout the United States and Japan, CIWT is recognized as Naval Education and Training Command’s top learning center for the past three years. Training over 21,000 students every year, CIWT delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services. CIWT also offers more than 200 courses for cryptologic technicians, intelligence specialists, information systems technicians, electronics technicians, and officers in the information warfare community.
