The “Shadowhawks” of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 141 held an inflight change of command ceremony July 3, while embarked with the USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group.

Cmdr. Bryan M. Haney relieved Cmdr. Luke H. Davis as the commanding officer of VAQ-141.

Davis, a native of Prior Lake, Minnesota, assumed command of the Shadowhawks April 12 last year, and led the squadron through two Western Pacific deployments and several exercises including Malabar, Valiant Shield and Keen Sword.

Under Davis’ command, the Shadowhawks were selected to receive the Chief of Naval Operations Retention Excellence award and the Commander, Naval Air Forces, U. S. Pacific Fleet Navy Blue “M” award.

A native of Lynnwood, Washington, Haney most recently attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he received his master’s degree in Defense and Strategic Studies. Prior postings included tours as both a junior officer and department head for VAQ-138, and was also an operational test pilot at Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) Nine, at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, California. He has flown the EA-6B Prowler and F/A-18E/F, and is now current in the EA-18G Growler.

The Shadowhawks welcomed their new executive officer, Cmdr. Josh Ales. Ales reported to VAQ-141 from Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee.

VAQ-141 is forward deployed to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, as a component of CVW-5 and regularly embarks aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) in support of security and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
