Trivia Night: Name That 90's Song

15 July 2019
The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman's (CVN 75) Morale, Welfare and Recreation office held a music trivia event 9 July on the ship's mess decks.

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman’s (CVN 75) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) office held a music trivia event 9 July on the ship’s mess decks.

Molly Wrona, Harry S. Truman’s fun boss, coordinated the event and said Sailors gathered around a radio playing different 90’s songs to guess the song titles and artists.

“We put on these events to give the crew a break from their jobs,” said Wrona. “Everyone is working really hard, so it’s important to give them an escape.”

Wrona said MWR holds a different trivia event every Tuesday night while the ship is underway.

“I like coming to MWR events,” said Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Jalen Williams, an operator in Truman’s main communications division. “I was excited for this night because I like the 90’s theme, and I’m a huge music fan.”

Wrona said prizes are awarded to the winners of MWR tournaments or trivia nights. The prizes can include gift cards, Bluetooth speakers, headphones, iPads and much more.

“A lot of times, people get stuck in their routine,” said Williams. “I feel like MWR events are a good break from that. They create a space where you can just hang out and chill with friends. That is really enjoyable.”

Truman is currently underway conducting composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG).

COMPTUEX is an intensive, month-long exercise designed to fully integrate units of HSTCSG, while testing the strike group's ability as a whole to carry out sustained combat operations from the sea. Ships, squadrons and staffs will be tested across every core warfare area within their mission sets through a variety of simulated and live events, including air warfare, strait transits, and responses to surface and subsurface contacts and electronic attacks.

HSTCSG is scheduled to deploy later this year. Strike group elements participating in COMPTUEX include Truman and embarked Carrier Air Wing One; staffs from Carrier Strike Group 8 and Destroyer Squadron 28, the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60); and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Ramage (DDG 61), USS Lassen (DDG 82), USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98) and USS Farragut (DDG 99).
