Trident Training Facility (TTF) held a change of command ceremony at the chapel onboard Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, July 23.

Capt. Jeffrey Lamphear relieved Capt. Wayne C. Wall as commanding officer, Trident Training Facility, in a ceremony attended by TTF staff, students, family members and guests.

“There is no doubt in my mind that the submarine force got it right when they put Wayne Wall in command of the Trident Training Facility,” said the  guest speaker, Capt. George Perez Jr., Chief of Staff, Commander, Submarine Group 10.

Wall, who spent all of his operational and most of his shore tours in Kings Bay, said the ceremony was more than just the end of a tour.

"This change of command ceremony marks the end of a 23-year chapter in mine and my family’s lives,” he said. “This has been a great tour for me to watch the accomplishments that you all have done.”

Wall assumed command of Trident Training Facility in October 2017. He individually thanked and recognized shipmates, family members and friends, and closed his speech with advice for TTF staff and students.

"Why do I want you to be a professional?" he asked. "Because our crews out at sea have to get it right. They don’t have the option of failure. The single most important mission is being carried out by our crews out there and they have to get it right."

Lamphear, a native of Livonia, Michigan, graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s of science degree in Engineering Mechanics. He received his commissioning through the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program.

“Your exceptional leadership is visible in the high state of morale in the staff,” he said, speaking to Wall. “I’m excited to be here and excited to be a part of TTF Kings Bay.”

Lamphear's operational tours include division officer aboard the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720); Sea Combat Commander Watch Officer and planner on staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron Fifteen; Engineer Officer of USS Topeka (SSN 754); and Operations Officer on the staff of Commander, Carrier Strike Group 10.

"I look forward to working with you and our mission to continue to improve the skills and knowledge of the submarine force," said Lamphear.

Additionally, he served as the commanding officer of the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Helena (SSN 725).

The mission of the Trident Training Facility is to train officer and enlisted personnel in the basic knowledge and skills required to build competence and proficiency in operating and maintaining the Trident submarine and all associated systems. The facility strives to provide replacement, conversion, and advanced officer and team training to Trident submarine crewmembers and submarine support personnel, in order to increase and maintain knowledge and proficiency in specific skills.
